Faculty

The Interior Design faculty at Mesa College is comprised of award winning professional interior designers and architects.

Mimi Moore - Professor

Professor Mimi Moore has passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam and is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She has a B.A. in Applied Arts & Sciences with an emphasis in Interior Design and an M.A. in Education from San Diego State University. Professor Moore is a Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and a Professional Member of the Interior Design Education Council (IDEC).  She has been teaching interior design at San Diego Mesa College since 1985 and is the Coordinator of the NKBA Accredited Interior Design Program. Her private practice has focused on residential design.

Holly Hodnick - Professor

Professor Holly Hodnick is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She has a B.A. degree in Art and a B.S. degree in Interior Design from San Jose State University. Professor Hodnick has passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam and is a Professional Member of IDEC. Prior to her position at Mesa, she was Program Director of two CIDA Accredited Professional Level Interior Design Programs. Professor Hodnick is a CIDA site visitor. She is also a Board member of the California Council for Interior Design Certification (CCIDC).  Her design work has been published in national design magazines.

Kimberly Hansen - Adjunct Professor
Kimberley B. Hansen, Adjunct Professor, has a B.A. from San Diego State University in Clothing, Textiles and Merchandising. She also has an A.A. Degree in Applied Arts and an A.S. Degree in Interior Design from San Diego Mesa College. While a Mesa student, she served two terms as the President of the Student Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and was awarded the ASID Deborah Thomas Award for Outstanding Student Leader by the San Diego Professional Chapter of ASID. She is now an Allied Member of ASID and has served as the Professional Liaison to San Diego State University’s Student Chapter of ASID. She serves on the Professional ASID Board as the Director of Professional Development and Programs.

Ian Kay - Associate Professor
Associate Professor Ian Kay has been at San Diego Mesa College since 1987, first as an adjunct and now full-time, teaching in both the Architecture and Interior Design Programs.  He has a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.  Professor Kay is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB).  He has his own architectural practice specializing in residential and commercial projects and interiors.

Helen Lindquist - Adjunct Professor
Helene Lindquist, Adjunct Professor, has a B.A. from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Studio Arts. She also has a Certificate of Achievement in Interior Design from San Diego Mesa College and is a Professional Member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. In her professional practice, she utilizes a diverse background in kitchen and bath design, yacht interiors, and showroom management. She has passed the Certified Kitchen Design (CKD) and Certified Bath Design (CBD) exams.

Dan Stoddard - Adjunct Professor
Dan Stoddard, Adjunct Professor, has designed, specified and provided beautiful, custom interiors for a variety of clients for 35 years.  His body of work includes design for private residences, executive offices, government offices, medical centers and clinics, yacht interiors, retail stores, art galleries, historic interiors and preservation and religious interiors. Mr. Stoddard currently specializes in kitchen and bath design and transformation. His credentials include:

Karen Lowe - Adjunct Professor
Karen Lowe, Adjunct Professor, is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. She has passed the NCIDQ exam and is a Professional Member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). She has a B.S. degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in Interior Design from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. Karen has been teaching Interior Design courses part-time since 1997. Her professional experience of over 20 years has emphasized commercial design and educational facilities.

Lou Ann Gibson - Professor
Professor Lou Ann Gibson has been teaching Textiles at Mesa since 1976. She has also taught lower and upper division textile courses at SDSU. She has a B.A. in Family Studies and Consumer Sciences and an M.A. in Textile Science/Consumer Education, both from San Diego State University.

Ann Scott Parker - Adjunct Professor
Ann Scott Parker, Adjunct Professor, has a B.A. from San Diego State University with an emphasis in Interior Design. She passed the NCIDQ exam and is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California since 1995.  Her professional experiences include working in commercial design for 15 years and residential design for the last 10 years.  Voted  Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising(FIDM) in 1998, Ms. Parker has taught a variety of design courses since 1993.

Chad Watters - Adjunct Professor
Chad Watters, Adjunct Professor, has a Bachelors and Masters degree in Architectural Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University with an emphasis in lighting and electrical design.  He is also Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions and is a LEED Accredited Professional by the US Green Building Council.  Currently, he serves on the board of the San Diego Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.  When he is not teaching, Chad is the director of a local lighting design studio.

 

Additionally, our students take computer aided drafting classes from Professor Rob Fender in the Architecture Program.
