Purpose
Developing processes for on-going review, analysis, and application of Mesa College research data produced by District Research and other groups/organizations as we institutionalize the concept of a “culture of evidence.”
Creating an inventory of research data, assessment, and student learning outcomes information; assisting faculty, departments, and schools in using research data and information for course and program improvement and for assessment of student success.
Creating a long-term research planning agenda for Mesa College.
Providing printed and/or Web materials of relevant resource information on research, assessment, student learning outcomes, and effective teaching/learning practices to the campus as well as educational materials relative to the use of research.
In collaboration with the Mesa Faculty and Staff Development Committee, recommending workshop activities that focus on effective practices to support student success.
Recommending processes (e.g., survey templates) and training for faculty and departments to carry out specialized research projects and surveys.
Developing and recommending model(s) for Mesa College for student learning outcomes and assessment at the program and degree level.

Purpose
The Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Subcommittee is a college participatory governance committee that reports to the Research Committee. Its purpose is to guide the development of Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment college-wide at San Diego Mesa College is accordance with accreditation standards. The committee:
- Provides advice and guidance on the development and implementation of student learning outcomes and assessment
- Reviews and advises on recommendations from the Student Learning Outcomes and Assessment Coordinator
- Assists in communication about SLOs and assessment to departments, schools, and other participatory governance groups represented by members
- Assesses the progress made by the college in SLOs and recommends changes, as well as necessary actions to maintain progress
- Reviews information about Mesa’s progress on SLOs and assessment
- Presents annual updates on Mesa's work on SLOs and asssessment
- Encourages responsible involvement by students in their educational progress
